RUNWAY ON THE RUNWAY

RUNWAY ON THE RUNWAY

Runway on the Runway is one of the most exciting and innovative teen charity fashion events of recent years. The theme of our fashion shows is Prom and our teams of models, chosen from ten local schools, are  given the opportunity to sparkle in the latest exclusive prom fashions by top international designers and high street fashion ranges.

This glittering fashion extravaganza is held at Manchester Airport's stunning Concorde Conference Centre, home to one of aviation's most iconic symbols, Concorde.  Our custom-made catwalk stretches underneath this exquisite aircraft, making it quite literally the Concorde Catwalk! The purpose of the event is to raise money for charity.

In 2013 we raised £40,000, which was split between; TheMake-A-Wish Foundation, Teenage Cancer Trust and Medcare, the designated charity for Manchester Airport.  ROTR has had top billing in the Manchester Evening News and high profile coverage in Cheshire Life and the local media. We have also been visited by Granada Television and a documentary film crew. We would like to thank our generous sponsors - most of whom gave their time and expertise free of charge, enabling us to give all the money we raised directly to our charities.

In 2015 our aim was to raise awareness about teenage cancer as well as money for the Teenage Cancer Trust (NW) Pilot Outreach project.

Here, Margo Cornish, Producer of Runway on the Runway, explains the passion behind the project and her mission to raise awareness about teenage cancer in the North West.

GETTING INVOLVED - SCHOOLS

Runway on the Runway is about young people doing things for other young people.  It is about creating opportunities for young people and giving them something  interesting to put on their CV or UCAS applications whilst raising awareness about teenage cancer at the same time. Students involved in 2013 and 2015 gained experience in areas such as team-work, choreography, fashion design, photography, journalism, make-up, hairdressing and fundraising.  For some, it gave them the chance to walk down the specially lit Concorde Catwalk to the flash of cameras and huge applause from an enthusiastic audience.  Now that's something money just can't buy.......
